As you move on and into your dating life, it’s important to tend to yourself first. Self-care and empowerment are the first steps to getting back into the dating world after a divorce. Divorce is a draining, emotional process that takes up most of your mental space as you proceed through it— and afterwards. Now that you’re finished and the papers are signed, it’s time to focus in on recalibrating your life and getting back out there. Taking time for you is the best way to create space for someone else in your life when the time comes.
Recalibrating Your Life After Divorce: The First Step in Getting Back Out There
Empower Yourself
The first step in recalibrating and getting back in your groove, you’ve got to lift yourself up. Find what makes you happy, find what starts a good day for you. Make those things that help you be you a priority. Be a little selfish, spoil yourself, and accept that things get to be about you for a moment. Often in marriage, the relationship because the complete and total center of your focus and self-care kind of falls to the wayside— it’s time for you to turn that on it’s head.
Get Confident
Have fun with your day to day routines. Wear that lip color you’ve always wanted to try, buy the dress. Do the things that make you feel good about yourself to get yourself into a new headspace. Your life has changed, and the changes don’t have to be all bad. Make yourself feel good as you settle into your new life, don’t hold yourself back.
Try New Things
Whether those new things be that dress we talked about, a new hairstyle, or hot yoga— get outside of your comfort zone and find a new hobby that makes you happy. Maybe you’ll hate the dress, or the hot yoga, but now you know and can keep on trying. You’ve got time to play with. That’s exciting!
Flirt!!
As you have fun trying to find new hobbies and exploring yourself, explore the world too. You’re likely not looking for anything too serious, and that’s fine. But don’t be afraid to flirt if you’re interested. As we’ve said, this is a time to explore. Find what you like, who you want to spend your time with, and what you want to do going forward. No time spent exploring your new life, new hobbies, and interests is time wasted. Be safe, smart, and have fun!
