So, we’re here to help you get a grip, and get over those divorce blues. As we’ve said, you’ve made it through the worst of it so now it’s time to recover. Here’s how to get started!

Kicking Divorce Blues: Moving On and Gaining Control After Divorce

Take control of your finances

If you can afford to do it, hire a financial planner! Getting a budget set is a great way to start saving and recreating that security for yourself again. If you can’t afford to hire someone, there are great templates that you can print off and go from. The key here is figuring out what’s going in, what’s going out, what to cut, and where you can splurge. The first key to kicking those divorce blues, is finding your financial independence.

Find peace in your quiet times

Being alone doesn’t have to be sad or lonely. Chances are, when you were married, you reveled in those quiet afternoons from time to time. Now, you can have as much quiet time as you’d like. There’s no shame in keeping to yourself for a little bit and finding your balance and getting comfortable with yourself.

Make big plans and set big goals, as well as small ones

Give yourself something to look forward to! When you have a tough day, looking back at those goals and what you’ve done to get to them can be pretty uplifting! Make your lists, from small stuff to big stuff. Maybe you want to buy a couch, a piece of artwork— or get that promotion you’ve been dreaming of. Write it all down, and make sure that your goals— while big, are obtainable from time to time. ‘Become president’ might take some time. But, paint the bathroom and change the fixtures? Knock it out next weekend!

Do things that make you happy

You want yellow walls? Do it! Wanna try out hot yoga? Go for it. You’ve got to do things that fill your life with positivity when you’re feeling down. Spend time with good friends, eat great food, laugh. This time, while it is about adjusting, settling finances, and so on— it’s also about taking the time to remind yourself how good you’ve got it.
