As humans, we like to have a nice, structured daily routine. However, divorce can cause our old routines to get thrown all out-of-sorts. Therefore, one nice things you can do for your mental health post-divorce is to make a new routine that’s focused around you.

You might have some responsibilities, like caring for your kids or pets, but you don’t have to worry about putting your partner’s needs before yours. Now, with that new free time, you can create a routine that truly fits you. A good idea might be to use that new time to schedule in something you enjoy, like reading, going to the park, or picking up a hobby.

Consider your work-life balance

One common things which can take a toll on your mental health post-divorce is the extra alone time you have. Not having someone else in the house can make you feel isolated or alone. As a result, some people like to try and give extra attention to their jobs. However, it’s important to be careful when doing this.

You might think that picking up extra shifts or working more hours can help distract you from those feelings. However, you’re setting yourself up for potential burnout. Therefore, while you can pick up some extra work, don’t overdo it. Try to find more healthier uses of that extra alone time instead.

Seek outside help

It’s important to remember that you don’t have to try and improve your mental health post-divorce alone. Some people might feel like getting extra help is “weak” or “not for them”. However, one of the strongest things a person can do is get some extra help when they need it.

Seeing someone such as a therapist can help you figure out what exactly is causing you problems. Then, you can work together to come up with ways to turn things around. Even meeting with a divorce support group can help you see that you aren’t alone in your struggles.
